National Insurance Reminder
For apprenticeships in 2025-26, employers are exempt from paying employer National Insurance contributions (NICs) for apprentices under 25, as long as they are on an approved UK government apprenticeship and earn less than £967 per week.
Here's a more detailed breakdown:
· Exemption from Employer NICs: Employers are exempt from paying secondary Class 1 (employer) NICs on earnings up to the Upper Earnings Limit for apprentices under 25.
· Employer NI Relief for Apprentices: Employers can save on Employer NI by hiring apprentices under 25.
· Evidence Needed: If your apprentice meets the conditions listed, you'll need evidence to apply for national insurance relief, which can be a written agreement between you, the apprentice and a training provider or evidence that government funding is received for the apprenticeship.
