Case Study – Paula
Team Leader Supervisor Level 3
I first heard about Prostart through my Line Manager who referred me onto the course. I was working at the Martin Jackaman Day Centre as a Care Worker Level 3 and I wanted to progress in my career. Although I was successful at getting interviews, I didn’t get the post. I realised that I was lacking the knowledge required to progress as there is a significant difference between the Level 3 and a Care Team Leader post.
I have definitely gained an insight into the skills and knowledge required to be an effective Line Manager and I now understand why I wasn’t able to pass the interview stage. I have particularly learned a lot about myself, personality type, management style and how to deal with conflict. Before the course the main thing I knew about management was mainly around appraisals and supervisions, but I now understand the reasons for these and how they can help to build a high performing team.
Prostart have helped me by being supportive and helped build my self-esteem and confidence. This has been done through the support of Dawn, who has always known the right things to say to get the best out of me. She was particularly supportive with regards to the End Point Assessment, as I had identified one of my weaknesses to be that I was very scared of interviews, she seemed to know the right things to say to get me through the day.
When asked, ‘how would you recommend Apprenticeships to someone who was in a similar situation to yourselves’ I’d say: Go for it, you’ve got nothing to lose!!
Paula used notes during her EPA events instead of having the whole portfolio and secured a distinction.
