Supply Chain is at the heart of every business – it is a system of organisations, people, activities, information and resources involved in moving products or services from supplier to customer. It may include the transformation of natural resources, raw materials and components into a finished product.
Effective and dynamic supply chains are particularly important in fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) sectors, for example food & drink, retail or consumables, where products have one or more of the following characteristics: high volume, fast turnover and frequently purchased. FMCG have a short shelf life, either as a result of high consumer demand or because the product deteriorates rapidly. In contrast, durable goods or major appliances such as kitchen appliances are generally replaced over a period of several years. Supply chain functions include procurement, forecasting, planning manufacture, customer service and logistics.
They have a comprehensive understanding of the entire supply chain, are responsible for their impact on each function and strive to deliver the best value for their business and customer. Due to the high number of interactions both within and outside of the business, they need strong relationship building, influencing, stakeholder management and communication skills alongside sound analytical, information technology and numeracy skills, with an ability to work in a fast-paced environment with frequently changing requirements. FMCG Supply Chain Practitioners will be able to progress to management or specialist roles.

Delivery of the Training: –
Knowledge-based off the job training will take place once a month along with portfolio building days each month. The Apprentices allocated Learning and Development Coach will issue monthly action plans and complete workplace visits in addition to the off the job training and portfolio building days.
Progress Reviews will take place with the Apprentice, Manager and Learning and Development Coach every 12 weeks to monitor progress and ensure the Apprentice is on target to achieve by the planned end date.
Individual employers will set the selection criteria, but this is likely to include five GCSEs, (especially English and Mathematics) relevant qualifications and experience.
The duration of this Apprenticeship is typically 24-30 months
End Point Assessment Requirements
- Written Knowledge Test (25%) – All knowledge will be assessed in the written knowledge test. The knowledge test will be drawn from all of the knowledge statements within the Standard. A combination of multiple-choice questions and extended answer questions
- Professional Dialogue and Interview (25%) – The professional dialogue and interview is a structured discussion between the apprentice and an independent assessor covering a range of knowledge, skills and behaviours. A set of standardised competency-based questions will be used for the assessment. Undertaken after all other end-point assessment components have been successfully completed
- Workplace Project & Presentation (50%) – The workplace project and presentation is a substantial piece of work that will allow the apprentice to plan, implement and present an individual work based project. The apprentice will be assessed against a range of knowledge, skills and behaviours.
20% off the job training is a mandatory requirement when completing any Apprenticeship Standard.
