Opening Doors to Potential: Workplace Learning as a Gateway to Education
National Opportunity Day 2026 is a day of action and awareness focused on expanding access to meaningful educational pathways, career development, and sustainable employment. While unemployment figures may shift, the underlying “skills gap”, the disparity between the skills employer’s need and the qualifications available, remains a persistent challenge in the UK and specifically across the East Midlands.
At Prostart, we believe that education is not a linear journey confined to a traditional classroom. Opportunities for learning and growth should be integrated into every workplace, creating dynamic, skilled workforces. This event highlights how work-based learning is the key to unlocking potential, empowering individuals to earn while they learn and allowing businesses to cultivate their own talent.

National Opportunity Day was founded by Glasgow Kelvin College to recognise that opportunity does not follow a single path — and that education, skills and progression should be accessible at every stage of life.
The day exists to support people who may be unsure of their next step, returning to learning, changing direction, or exploring new possibilities after a break in education or work.
This National Opportunity Day, Prostart is calling all East Midlands SMEs and UK-wide employers to join us in making workplaces the new classrooms. Let’s create opportunities that drive social mobility, increase regional productivity, and build the future workforce.
